What is the biggest issue facing the animation industry right now?

The challenges of the animation industry are diverse and each company must face them taking into account the combination of the local (funding, talent, ideas) and the global (audiences, trends, concepts). Finding the balance between the two is the most difficult thing at the moment for many animation companies.

What is your company doing in response to this?

At Glow, we try to create original concepts that come from our traditions, our culture and our way of being. [We use] art, ideas and stories that surround us that are not told by anyone [else] and that at the same time are reflected in the whole world, as we achieved with Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles.

How are you using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to make animated projects and how are these tools altering the role of the animator?

For us, AI is a tool that we are not yet clear about the extent to which it can facilitate mechanical tasks. That is our interest: to save time in order to be able to dedicate more time to art and creation. We don’t believe that AI will replace the animator in any case, we simply believe that it will facilitate processes, and that’s why we are investigating its insertion into our workflow.

What does the popularity of Roblox tell us about young audiences and can online social platforms be effectively used to launch new animated IP?

We’re absolutely fascinated with Roblox and its reach within the youth. We find this combination of entertainment and the ability to create fascinating because it’s an opportunity to introduce new generations to content creation in an easy and fun way.

Tell us about the project you are pitching at Cartoon Forum.

All Good (10×22′) is an animated delight created by two great Spanish talents who come up with projects that fit our production philosophy: local stories, enjoyable all over the world and with a great dose of humour. Diego Porral and Joaquín Garralda introduced us to the project some time ago and we immediately fell in love with it. We already have the participation of regional television (Canal Extremadura TV) and the interest of several broadcasters, streaming channels and distributors. We’re going to Cartoon Forum to make our funniest pitch and to establish relationships with partners who want to enjoy and produce unique content such as All Good.
