AMD has just opened its biggest global design center in Bengaluru, India. This is a significant step in AMD’s commitment to expand research and development in the country.
The new campus, named AMD Technostar, will house around 3,000 engineers, focusing on cutting-edge semiconductor technology like 3D stacking, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics, and Information Technology, inaugurated the campus.
AMD executives, including Mark Papermaster (Executive VP and CTO), David Wang (Senior VP of GPU Technologies and Engineering), Brian Amick (Senior VP of Central Engineering), and Andrej Zdravkovic (Chief Software Officer and Senior VP of GPU Technologies), were also present.
This new campus is part of AMD’s $400 million investment in India over the next five years. It will function as a center of excellence for developing high-performance CPUs for data centers and PCs, data center and gaming GPUs, and adaptive SoCs and FPGAs for embedded devices.
The 500,000-square-foot campus embraces Indian art and craft in its design. It includes modern R&D labs, a 60,000-square-foot demo center for experiencing AMD products, and collaboration-friendly huddle spaces and conference rooms.
The facility also prioritizes employee well-being with features like a cafeteria designed for large gatherings, a gym, and a yoga center.
Speaking at the event, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways and IT, said:
The semiconductor initiative initiated by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at bolstering the semiconductor design and talent ecosystem, receives strong emphasis. The establishment of AMD’s largest design center in Bengaluru is evidence of the trust that global companies place in India’s capabilities.

The journey of the India Design Centre began with a few employees in 2004. Presently, a quarter of AMD’s worldwide workforce operates in India, contributing to the development of AMD’s leading products for data center, gaming, PC, and embedded customers. This new facility signifies the next step in our growth, aiming to be a substantial contributor to the progress of semiconductor technology.
