Companies’ existing security infrastructure contains many insights into safety and operations. These insights are turning into tools that support informed decision-making throughout the business, thanks to artificial intelligence that appears in new technologies and solutions every day. This transformative technology offers a range of benefits that enable companies to optimize their operations and proactively address emerging risks.

Security technology is evolving at an extraordinary pace and is becoming smarter, faster and more comprehensive. Today, innovations in the security sector highlight artificial intelligence, and many products and solutions now have artificial intelligence-supported capabilities. In light of technological developments, companies are increasingly investing in artificial intelligence and data analytics-focused solutions to meet security needs and increase the value of security programs.

The Global Technology Trends Report of Securitas Technology, the global leader in security technologies, which reflects the opinions of 900 decision makers who are experts in security from around the world and contains important findings on the trends that will shape the future of the industry, also reveals the rise of artificial intelligence. More than half of the companies state that they use artificial intelligence and data analytics in security solutions to increase efficiency.

Securitas Technology Turkey General Manager Pelin Yelkencioğlu said that artificial intelligence, with all its transformative power, provides companies with the opportunity to obtain greater insights, thus making it possible for them to optimize operations and proactively approach emerging risks. “As businesses shift towards a more proactive approach to their security, artificial intelligence and data analytics will play a key role in shaping the future of innovation in the industry,” said Yelkencioğlu.

Video Analysis Solutions are among the artificial intelligence-supported security solutions frequently preferred by businesses and organizations. Artificial intelligence-supported cameras monitor abnormal movements, determine possible threats in advance and implement actions to prevent the threat within the determined scenarios. The solution warns operators on their screens when any undesirable situation occurs and allows immediate intervention. Without artificial intelligence, such risky events can be overlooked or it can take days to identify these moments across multiple video recordings.

Another benefit of this technology is to reduce the occurrence of false alarms. Once the system identifies a threat, it uses pre-programmed stimuli or machine learning to evaluate the likelihood of an actual threat. Accordingly, it evaluates the threat and decides whether there is a real problem.

This ability of artificial intelligence helps eliminate unnecessary emergency movements. With artificial intelligence, it becomes possible to manage processes more safely and efficiently.

Pointing out that technologies that monitor and analyze security systems data can provide very valuable insights about the working environment of a business, Pelin Yelkencioğlu said, “By using this information, artificial intelligence technology can understand what works for that facility and what needs to be improved. Businesses can use information about optimal working conditions to reduce costs and allocate limited labor more efficiently. With the power of AI, security insights will no longer be in isolated areas but will be a tool that supports informed decision-making across the business. “We will continue to see innovations in AI-powered security technologies, especially as these use cases become essential functions to increase business resiliency,” he said.

For example, in the retail environment, artificial intelligence technologies can evaluate optimal working hours by determining when a store experiences the most footfall. It can determine which aisles require more or less staff based on consumer movement. In an institutional setting, these observations can also be used to evaluate when energy-intensive systems, including lights and temperature, need to be adjusted.

In the coming years, it is expected that new products and solutions will be developed in the electronic security industry that will help it easily process and evaluate this type of data thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
