Following the premiere of Eno, Brian Eno has announced the release of the documentary’s official soundtrack, set for release this spring.

Directed by Gary Hustwit, Eno premiered in January at Sundance Film Festival. The documentary provides a portrait of the ambient pioneer and a look into his creative processes, featuring unreleased music and footage, but it also utilises generative artificial intelligence so that the final edit of the film changes each time it is shown.

“I think of Eno as an art film about creativity, with the output of Brian’s 50-year career as its raw material,” the director explained on his website, “what I’m trying to do is to create a cinematic experience that’s as innovative as Brian’s approach to music and art.”

The subject of the documentary has now announced details of the accompanying soundtrack. Eno shared the news on Instagram, opening pre-orders for physical copies of the double LP. The record will be available to purchase on recycled black vinyl, pink and white coloured vinyl, and CD.

The 17-track album features collaborations with the likes of the Velvet Underground’s John Cale, Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, and electronic producer Fred Again. It also includes three unreleased compositions, the first of which is out now.

The announcement is accompanied by the release of previously unheard track ‘Lighthouse #429’, a cinematic collage of samples.

Meanwhile, Eno recently revealed his fears about artificial intelligence. He explained in an interview with the Los Angeles Times: “Well, the only thing that really worries me about AI is who owns it. And if it’s in the hand of Silicon Valley frat boys, I’m seriously troubled. If it’s in the hands of people like [Mark] Zuckerberg and [Elon] Musk and all that other group of people, then I think we’re in trouble because I don’t trust them to make the momentous decisions that they’re being called upon to make.”

Eno (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is due for release on April 19th, 2024. Listen to the first track, ‘Lighthouse #429’, below.
