Sanofi Healthcare India plans to invest €400 million in expanding its Global Capacity Centre in Hyderabad over six years, with initial investment of €100 million by next year. The expansion will increase employee capacity to 2,600, making it the largest of Sanofi’s global hubs and focus on AI-driven innovations.

Sanofi Healthcare India Pvt Ltd announced on Wednesday a significant expansion of its Global Capacity Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, committing to an investment of €400 million over the next six years. The company plans to invest €100 million by the next year alone.

Madeleine Roach, Executive Vice President of Business Operations at Sanofi, stated that the GCC will host approximately 2,600 employees in two years, making it the largest of the company’s four global hubs. Roach highlighted the long-term strategy and commitment behind this investment.

The funds will be primarily aimed at acquiring talent and building new capabilities to run the expanded operations, particularly in areas involving state-of-the-art facilities in Hyderabad. Since its establishment in 2019, the Hyderabad hub has evolved from a medical hub to offering multiple best-in-class services for Sanofi’s global functions and affiliates.

Emmanuel Frenehard, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Sanofi, expressed the company’s ambition to become the first biopharma company powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) at scale. Frenehard emphasized the ethical and safe use of AI to expedite drug discovery and market entry, addressing unmet medical needs. He noted plans to harness AI across the value chain, improving productivity and decision-making.

A senior official mentioned that around 50% of the Hyderabad centre’s staff hold PhDs and Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with additional personnel being fresh graduates and tech experts from premier institutes.

The facility’s inauguration at HiTECH City was attended by Telangana Minister for Industries D Sridhar Babu, alongside Arunish Chawla, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, and Thierry Berthelot, Consul General of France in Bangalore.
