Anupam Mittal, founder of the popular matrimonial website Shaadi.com, has launched a hard-hitting campaign featuring a controversial dowry calculator, known as “DowrAI.” Sharing the video on Instagram about the DowrAI, Mittal wrote “Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat ab tum bhi jaano Ramesh babu.”
In the video posted on Instagram, Anupam Mittal, the founder of Shaadi.com and investor on Shark Tank India, addressed the complexity of dowry calculations in modern times.He pointed out that factors such as income, investments, startup equity, and even the type of smartphone one uses have become criteria for determining dowry demands. To simplify this convoluted process, Mittal claims to have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and ChatGPT to develop an innovative tool called “DowrAI” – a play on the words “dowry” and “AI.”
The tool, which initially appears to estimate dowry amounts based on user inputs, instead reveals the shocking statistics of dowry-related deaths in the country over the past two decades. According to the data presented by the calculator, more than 1.8 lakh dowry-related deaths have been reported in India in the last 20 years. While the number of reported cases has decreased in recent years, the issue remains deeply entrenched in Indian society, highlighting the urgent need for change.
Mittal’s video has quickly gained traction on social media, sparking a national conversation about the need to eradicate this social evil. Since it was shared, the post has garnered over a million views, 36,000 likes, and more than thousand comment with people having mixed reaction .His message is “be the change, make a difference.”
