Bulgaria, Japan to Do Joint AI Research

The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University signed a partnership memorandum with Riken, Japan’s largest comprehensive research institution working in a diverse range of scientific disciplines, the Bulgarian Education and Science Ministry reported on Friday.

The signing took place in Sofia during a special visit by Masashi Sugiyama, Director of the Riken Center for Advanced Intelligence Project and professor at Tokyo University, who is a leading expert in artificial intelligence (AI).

The memorandum is another sign of recognition for INSAIT and the results it has achieved in AI research. It is also the first AI accord between Bulgaria and Japan. The memorandum envisages work on concrete projects and under joint research and doctoral programmes. It encompasses important AI fields such as robotics, machine learning and computer vision.
