↗️ Microsoft (MSFT): The software giant said it hired Sam Altman, days after he was ousted as chief executive of OpenAI, to lead a new artificial-intelligence research team. Microsoft stock rose over 2% premarket.

↘️ Alphabet (GOOGL): Shares in the Google owner, whose AI product Bard competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, fell slightly premarket.

↘️ Bayer (BAYRY), (XE: BAYN): The German pharmaceutical and agricultural group was ordered to pay $1.56 billion in a lawsuit relating to its Roundup weedkiller, and said it had stopped a study for a potentially key cardiovascular drug. Bayer stock sank 20% in Germany.
