A Montenegro court last Friday gave the green light to the extradition of fugitive crypto fraudster Do Kwon, but where he will be sent is so far unclear. The Montenegrin Justice Ministry must now decide whether the 32-year-old behind the spectacular collapse of the TerraUSD and Luna cyber coins will be sent to Korea or the U.S., which have both put him on their wanted list. A high court in the capital of Podgorica said on its website that the legal conditions for Kwon’s extradition have been met and that it received Korea’s request first. Korea’s request was received by the ministry on March 29 and the U.S.’ on April 3. The court added that Kwon has agreed to be extradited to Korea. But Montenegrin Justice Minister Andrej Milovic has hinted that his government would favor the U.S. in a decision he described as “political.” “The U.S. is our main foreign policy partner. We want to sign a bilateral extradition agreement as soon as possible to create a legal framework for future extraditions,” Milovic told local TV Vijesti. The court did not specify when Kwon will be extradited, except that the decision should be made after he completes his four-month prison sentence in Montenegro for passport forgery. Kwon fled first Korea and then Singapore ahead of Terraform’s crash in May last year. After stopping in Serbia he was arrested at Podgorica Airport this March while trying to board a flight to Dubai on forged Belgian and Costa Rican passports. The collapse of his Terra USD stablecoin and Luna cryptocurrency wiped out some $300 billion in investors’ money.
